……….Things are beginning to get a bit more interesting on Capitol Hill at this hour. The House just voted overwhelmingly to send a request to the House Ethics Committee to look into the issues surrounding the behavior of former New York Congressman, Eric Massa. The Ethics Committee is not bound to follow this House Resolution but if they decide to ignore it, things could get very messy for the Speaker and the House Leadership. The Republicans are asking about when the Speaker knew details of Massa’s behavior and what she may have known. More than 400 members of the House vote affirmatively for hearings to take place regarding this matter.
……….Massa’s ethics probe is over! Now the light is being directed on the House leadership and questions surrounding what they actually knew about this tangled mess and when they were actually aware that there were issues related to Massa’s behavior. It seems that Speaker Pelosi has made a mess that she will have some difficulty navigating in the relatively near future. It is becoming very clear that the Speaker’s lack of clarity on certain issues may become significantly more problematic in the immediate future. She has made a number of comments that border on both silly and asinine. Her counterpart in the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid, has also been quite cryptic, bordering on the stupid. Some of his recent comments are clearly indicative that he understands his problems with re-election are beyond serious at this point in time.
……….As recently as yesterday Reid came out in full attack mode excoriating Chief Justice Roberts with respect to his comments directed at a University of Alabama group of law students. The comments have further enraged the right as it is becoming ever apparent that the President and Congressional Leadership choose to misrepresent the law as it stands with respect to a recent decision. This dust-up was started by the President and some remarks that he directed toward a recent Supreme Court decision. Justice Alito was caught on camera showing disagreement with the President’s claim. It has since been shown that the comments of the President were wrong and clearly misrepresented the actual facts of the case. My take on all of this is that the Democrats are beginning to implode and they have no sensible fall back position. In the clear spirit of things, the Majority leadership is clearly on the wrong side of public sentiment as of now.
