……….In the next few days, including today (12/20/09), the Obama apologists will be out in force making their case for the new Senate health insurance legislation. Amazing how Senators like Klobuchar (D,MN), Conrad (D,ND) and others have come to such a quick understanding of a bill that has been under revision for more than a week behind closed doors. I have to think long and hard on this if I were even willing to accept any of their idle claims. These are some of the same / similar Obama apologists who have been trotted out summarily time after time to make excuses and paint glowing pictures of this administration’s behavior.

……….They have a message that is loud and clear, perhaps too loud and too clear. They would have us all believe that this very good legislation. According to them any warts that previously existed have now been carefully attended to and will not see the light of day. I beg to differ with these leftists. They have lied previously and there are no indications that the truth has changed substantially to keep them from lying again. As noted, Ben Nelson got his little piece of heaven and implicated Nebraska’s Governor as a significant player in the deal. The Governor denies any role in this foolish scheme. Senator Nelson (D,NE) has now proclaimed this 2,000 plus page bill to be substantially better than before and meets with his approval.

……….These obviously scripted approvals are beginning to wear thin with me, very quickly. The Senate will require 60 votes to close debate and they will have to rely on all 60 of the Democrat members of the Senate. Earlier today Senator Olympia Snowe (D, ME) reiterated that for numerous reasons she would not be supporting the bill. A few Democrat Senators have been quiet about their stand but sound bites have been played that clearly demonstrate they have some serious reservations. One of these Senators, Jim Webb, (D,VA) has made some interesting observations on the contents of this legislation.

……….The betting money is now that the final bill out of conference, when this bill passes the Senate, will have to be strongly tilted to the Senate version to have a chance of passage. We will see if that happens early during the next session of Congress. Democrats on both sides of the issues have warned that for them, it is all or nothing. If the Senate version were to be accepted that would go contrary to an entire section of the Democrats caucus in the House. I will be interested to see what will happen in the ensuing weeks. Appropriately, a number of the Democrats are being asked to walk the plank in the 2010 elections. Speaker Pelosi and her inner circle are already calculating how many House members they can sacrifice and still hold power. Yet others are already pointing to the vulnerabilities of Senators up for re-election. It seems that the odds of Majority Leader Harry Reid surviving a 2010 election challenge are going to be somewhere between slim and none.

……….This foolish campaign on their part may be the ultimate undoing of them for a definite period of time. If that were to happen, then it would be appropriate if the Republican caucus got their act together and displayed some political guile with respect to fiscal responsibility.
